On WWE Superstars it was announced that for the 30-Man Royal Rumble Match, superstars involved in the match will not just be limited to appearing on the night for the Rumble. Instead there will be superstars competing in the Royal Rumble Match who have appeared in other matches earlier on during the pay-per-view.
No doubt about it, this is a great piece of new information about the Rumble going in on January 29th.
While the WWE certainly has enough superstars employed to have even a 40-Man Royal Rumble without even having to have many superstars pull double duty on the night, it's easily known that there were a great number of superstars who entered last year's Rumble with no way the majority of them likely to win it. Even including returning superstars Booker T and Kevin Nash, while highly entertaining to see them back, there was under no circumstances any of us truly thought either man would go on to the win the match. Even Beth Phoenix entering the Rumble in 2010, again entertaining to see, does not make us believe WWE would pull the stunt of a diva winning the Rumble.
We all know on the night there are a handful of names who are the most likely to go on to win the event, but what makes the match even better is when there are bigger names that can sway the audience's opinions, even if in our heart of hearts we know the chances of the big names like The Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, Batista and Triple H winning the Rumble at the stages of their WWE careers from 2008-2010 is less than barely possible.
This will also play on what happens in the World title matches, whereby if one of the champions drops the title we might see them start the Rumble early and go to the very end, latching onto them to win it or even see a returning superstar to come out in the last five entrant spots to win. Or even one of the challengers screwed out of the title could persevere against the 29 other superstars to win the Rumble, making the ultimate comeback and headline WrestleMania to finally win back the title.
Of course these are just hypothetical possibilities, but the fact that these scenarios could now possibly play out in the Royal Rumble Match will undoubtedly make the match all the more exciting.
What do you think? Are you happy we'll see more of the bigger names pulling double duty at the Royal Rumble? Would you prefer to see more wild card entrants?
