Floyd Mayweather and Miguel Cotto will officially announce their WBA Super Welterweight Championship fight this Thursday at Hollywood's world-famous Grauman's Chinese Theater. The mega-fight will take place May 5 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
According to representatives of Golden Boy Promotions and Mayweather Promotions, Sugar Shane Mosley (46-7-1, 39 KO) and Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (39-0-1, 29 KO) will be at the press conference as well, officially announcing their fight for the WBC Super Welterweight Championship.
When the news broke on these two fights a couple of weeks ago, I was excited for four big names on one card. But naturally, I started to second guess my enthusiasm.
The HBO Pay-Per-View numbers will be big, but are these fights that the boxing world really wants?
Floyd Mayweather (42-0, 26 KO) and Miguel Cotto (37-2, 30 KO) would have been a more intriguing fight three years ago. I see this fight going the distance and Mayweather winning by unanimous decision.
As far as Canelo vs. Mosley goes, Shane Mosley is a future Hall of Famer who should have retired two years ago when he lost to Mayweather. He's too old, and he continues to put a damper on his career by fighting. Especially taking on someone of Alvarez's caliber.
Alvarez is young, strong and hungry. He should beat Mosley rather easily.
Now don't get me wrong, of course I'll be watching these fights on PPV...but I wont be happy about it.
