New England Patriots Nike Uniforms: Grading New Home 2012 Jersey

Eitan Katz@@EitanKatzAnalyst IIApril 3, 2012

Tom Brady and the New England Patriots will have a new look in 2012 thanks to a superb free agency and a plethora of picks early on in the NFL draft.

Their jerseys, on the other hand, will look pretty much exactly the same.

With the NFL switching over from Reebok gear to Nike, it was easy to get excited about a potential jersey makeover. The Pats, however, have the distinction of having already had a pretty major jersey makeover not once in their history, but quite a few times. Their jerseys are modern, a symbol of the Bob Kraft-led powerhouse of the past decade.

Even with Nike controlling the design of the new uniforms, fans will have a nearly impossible time telling the difference between the 2012 version and the 2011 version.

The new-look Nike Patriots gloves and cleats are cool as can be, so at least there is something fun you can buy for your kids.

As for the uniforms, they are said to be a bit more form-fitting (perhaps a present for female NFL fans), but other than that, what you see is what you get. Only their home jerseys were remodeled.

For a team as successful as the Patriots, a jersey makeover is simply unnecessary.

Maybe you were curious to see what Nike was going to do with the uniforms, but to be completely honest Patriots fans should count their lucky stars—at least they didn't get treated to the Oregon Ducks...um, I mean, Seattle Seahawks jersey makeover. Those things are hideous.

Comfortable in their "same old" jerseys, Patriots players will hopefully play as well as their old counterparts did and help be a part of New England bringing home its fourth Super Bowl title since 2001.

Grade: B. Not much change, but those gloves and cleats are sweet!
