After four seasons at TCU, coach Jim Christian is headed back to the Mid-American Conference and is expected to be named coach John Groce's replacement at Ohio University, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
Coach Christian saw his coaching star rise not too long ago when he coached Kent State to two NCAA tournament appearances. That performance served as a stepping stone to the head coaching job at Texas Christian.
After leading the Bobcats to the Sweet 16 this season, Coach Groce left OU to take over as the coach at Illinois. Ohio was knocked out of the tournament after taking No. 1 North Carolina to overtime. Under Groce, Ohio made a pair of trips to the NCAA tournament.
Christian compiled a 137-59 record while at Kent State, and at TCU, he was 56-73.
Ohio's decision to hire Christian means that Ohio State assistant Jeff Boals will remain on Thad Matta's staff. Boals, who played at Ohio University, was rumored as Groce's likely successor.
