Sad Day in Football: Peter Warrick Goes "Semi-Pro"?

Robb HumphreyCorrespondent IJanuary 27, 2009

This Florida State Seminole fan is DADGUM MAD!!!

Heisman Candidates and Winners, pay attention: THIS is what happens to you once you get hurt and older...

On Jan. 26, 2009, the Indoor Football League's Bloomington Extreme signed former Seminole receiver Peter Warrick for the 2009 season.

Yes, America dubbed him Peter Wardrobe and still calls FSU "Free Shoes University" because of the illegal discount incident with Dillard's with fellow teammate and current New York Jet Laveranues Coles...

Yes, the front-runner for the 2000 Heisman Trophy was snubbed after his two-game suspension and media scrutiny. (Ron Dayne took the honors.)

Yes, he was released in 2005 after a subpar performance with the Cincinnati Bengals, the team that selected Warrick as the No. 4 Overall Pick in the 2000 Draft.

Yes, it is completely true that Seattle signed him, and in Super Bowl XL (40 for you non-Roman folk) he was used as the team's primary punt returner. As a reward for this, he was dropped after preseason the following year.

So WHY am I so angry, knowing there are so many negative statistics with Pete's career?

Two words: Kurt Warner.

Kurt Warner is not my favorite person, though right now he is assisting in my bro Quan Boldin's bid to relocate in the offseason... (I am predicting either Philly or Seattle.)

However, he also went (and is still in exempt status) in(to) Arena Football. He got his Super Bowl ring and on Feb. 1 will try for Number TWO with the Cardinals.

He was given a second chance.

There are unconfirmed rumors that Peter was contacted by several camps to attend (Miami, Carolina, Jacksonville, and the Jets) in 2007. In May 2008, he joined Montreal in the Canadian League, only to be released a month later (what a crock, eh!?)

Peter Warrick is about nine months younger than myself, yet he's been thrown away by the NFL. Not that I'm not happy for all the press he will receive for this great opportunity to showcase the "wonderful world of Indoor football" (versus Arena?), but I just don't understand...

He's not shooting people...

He's not cock-a-doodle-doo fighting...(or dogs) or gambling period...

He's not doing reality shows...

Possibly...this may be his last chance, to use this league (yes, I use the term loosely) as a stepping stone back into the Pro Club.

Maybe...the Jets will decide to let him play with his former teammate Coles...

Doubtfully...you will hear anything other than this article about this unless the coaches actually use him to his potential, versus the NFL's "I'm a spoiled brat and I am the star on the team, so nothing goes to that dude" attitude.

Definitely...I will be watching EVERYTHING he does and promoting him the ENTIRE WAY.

Here's a crazy idea...how about you fellow football fans do the same...

...they may need a WR in Arizona in a few months...

Where can I comment?
