Breaking news in from Ukraine: Paulie Malignaggi has stopped Vyaschlev Senchenko in the ninth round to capture the WBA title. Yes you read that right, Malignaggi, who is known as being feather-fisted, won a fight on the road in Ukraine by knockout over the previously undefeated Senchenko.

Malignaggi fought a great fight; it was perhaps his best performance. Going into the ninth I had Paulie up, six rounds to two. From the start of the fight, Paulie totally dominated with his jab and was roughing up Senchenko with right hands.

By the seventh round, Senchenko's eye was almost swollen shut, and his face as a whole was a mess. Malignaggi stepped up the pressure and was ultimately able to score a stoppage when referee Steve Smoger called it in the ninth round.

Malignaggi was about a 4.5/1 underdog and frankly he looked excellent. He can parlay this victory into a big payday later this year, likely at the new Barclay's center in Brooklyn. He fought a terrific fight and he totally deserved the victory.

Good stoppage, good fight, and a great win for Paulie Malignaggi, the new WBA World Welterweight Champion.
