Carlos Silva gave up a lot of runs in less than five innings of work. It was his second straight bad outing. Then rookie relief pitcher Julio DePaulo came in and gave up a lot of runs in an inning of work. Then relief pitcher Glen Perkins came in to stop the bleeding for the rest of the game but left clutching is throwing arm in what might be a serious injury.

Giving up 14 runs was bad, but Perkins getting hurt added to the injury pile which includes the only other left handed relief pitcher on the active roster, Dennys Reyes.
