Danica Patrick made a significant move today by landing Coca-Cola as a sponsor. USA Today is reporting that Patrick has signed a multi-year deal to join Coca-Cola Racing with several other Sprint Cup drivers.
This is a substantial uptick in recognition for Patrick, who is already one of the most recognizable females in America. She is best known for her lead racing sponsor Go Daddy and some of their sexy television commercials. The addition of Coca-Cola will only increase Patrick's notoriety and consumer influence.
While Patrick is not known for being one of the best drivers in NASCAR, she has become a pop icon throughout the country. Widely regarded as the best female driver in history, Patrick has developed quite an influence in a relatively short period of time.
Patrick is currently rated as the third overall driver, behind Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt Jr, by the Davie-Brown index (rates a celebrity's ability to influence consumers). The addition of Coca-Cola as a sponsor will only serve to boost Patrick's influence throughout the country. Go Daddy will continue to be Patrick's lead racing sponsor, but Coca-Cola will be one of her most visible commercial sponsors.
