Breaking news is coming in regarding the WBC Junior Middleweight title fight between James Kirkland and Canelo Alvarez. Kirkland, who was cleared to resume boxing activity, has reinjured his surgically repaired shoulder and will be unable to fight, according to BoxingScene.com.

Kirkland stated that his "shoulder felt funny" after a workout, and that he would be unable to go through with the fight.

This is a big blow to boxing fans, as this was a matchup between two big punchers who were bound to produce fireworks come the fight date of September 15th. This fight was made after Paul Williams was injured in a motorcycle accident a few days ago.

For Canelo, he'll quickly have to find another replacement, and I'm not entirely sure who he'll pick. Erislandy Lara would be a great selection and a great matchup, but I doubt Golden Boy Promotions would put Canelo in with a fighter who has at least a 50% chance to beat him, and would probably be the favorite.

A long shot to fill in could be Miguel Cotto, but it's more likely that Cotto will want to take time off after his exciting points loss to Floyd Mayweather on May 5th.

For Kirkland, it's another setback for "The Mandingo Warrior". Hopefully, he can get healthy and resume his career later this year. Maybe this fight can ultimately be made later in 2012, as Canelo will probably wind up fighting on his current date in September, and later on in the year likely in December.
