AC Milan will to play Brazilian giants Cruzeiro at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass. on Saturday, August 4 as part of a football doubleheader and the 2012 World Football Challenge.

The other day, it was rumored that the match was to be cancelled, but the match is indeed on.

The New England Revolution of Major League Soccer announced the event on their website yesterday. Milan and Cruzeiro are to join New England and Sporting Kansas City in the doubleheader.

The match will be Milan's second of three during a trip to the United States this summer. The Italians take on European champions Chelsea in Miami on July 28 and Spanish champions Real Madrid on August 8 in New York City.

The Revolution have been struggling for attendance the past couple years.

This season, they average 11,818 fans per game, about 28,000 behind the league leaders, the Seattle Sounders. The average attendance across Major League Soccer is 18,666. The doubleheader may see the Revolution draw a large crowd, at least for a night.

AC Milan have been making regular trips to the United States over the past few seasons. This will be the third time in four seasons that Milan play in friendlies in America.

It will be the second time AC Milan will be playing at Gillette Stadium. They played a derby against Inter Milan at Gillette as part of the 2009 World Football Challenge. Inter won 2-0 in front of 42,531 fans.
