Manchester United have been in hot pursuit for Lucas Moura for quite some time now, but the Red Devils would perhaps be wise to stay away from the Sao Paolo youngster.
After seeing their £27 million offer being rejected by the Brazilian club a couple of days ago, Goal.com revealed yesterday that the Red Devils are preparing a new £32 million bid for the young playmaker.
Even though United lost the league title to their closest rivals, Manchester City, Sir Alex should not be pushed into another spending spree in order to win back the Premier League title.
United full-back Rafael Da Silva didn't hide his wish to play alongside his countryman in Manchester.
"Yes, I have told Lucas he should come to Manchester United, of course."
Lucas is a fantastic playmaker and perhaps the greatest up-and-coming football prospect after Neymar, but Manchester United don't need to overspend like they did last summer.
The Sao Paolo playmaker has little experience playing at a top level, having played only 59 games in the Brasileiro Serie A, and £32 million is an awful lot of money to spend on such an unproven talent.
Sir Alex has already signed a more established player in the form of Shinji Kagawa, and with the likes of Nani, Valencia, Wayne Rooney and Ashley Young already in the squad, the Red Devils don't really need another playmaker. Not for the rumoured price, at least.
The Turkey international joined Real Madrid last summer, but injuries and Kaka's incredible run of form kept him out of the starting lineup for most of the last season. Frustrated with the lack of first-team opportunities, Sahin could be on the move again this summer.
The German-born Turkish midfielder was an integral part of Borussia Dortmund's title-winning squad, and he was voted Bundesliga Player of the Year at the end of 2010-11 season.
What's more, Sahin has already played and built an understanding with Kagawa during their time with Dortmund. Playing the two together would be an interesting solution for United's midfield woes.
Sahin also has much more experience at the top level, after playing in both Bundesliga and La Liga.
Besides, the Red Devils don't really need another playmaker as much as they need another creative defensive midfielder who is be able to start attacks. Michael Carrick tried to play in that role in the past, but it's obvious he is pretty much useless in attacks.
It is clear that Sahin would represent a much safer option for United. Nevertheless, Sir Alex looks ready to gamble with Lucas.
