Club Cricket: Gele Complete Unbeaten Weekend as They Beat Carmel Comfortably

Abergele Cricket Club made it four wins out of four over the bank holiday weekend, as the first team rounded off the weekend with a great performance against Carmel.

Having lost the toss Gele were put into bat. With the score on 12, Dafydd Timothy took the wicket of Martyn Hedge for 3 as he was caught by Dan Sim.

David Moulson was next to go, and he skied a ball off Timothy that was caught by Jon Fisher fr 19.

Ben Garnett soon followed for one as Gele struggled early on to some good line and length bowling from Timothy and Steve "Scooter" Jones.

This wicket brought Gele captain Ed Rooney along with one of Gele's promising youngsters David Williams. The pair partnered for 72 runs as Rooney bagged Gele's first half century of the season. Williams also batted well as he made 29.

The partnership as broken by Barry McGaughty, as he made Williams one of his four victims.

This brought about a mini-collapse for Gele, as Wasim Ali, Rooney, Gareth Edwards and Owen Lynam all fell in quick succession. Rooney batted excellent for his 56, which included 6 boundary fours and a massive six which hit the top of the pavilion.

Gele's innings finished on 133-9 as Josh Lloyd and Rana Das seen off the last few overs.

Gele were straight on the front foot with the ball as the opening pair of Lynam and Das took a wicket a piece (both caught by Moulson at slip), leaving Carmel at 15 for 2.

Moulson then took over with the ball, taking the next five wickets as he took 5 for 26. The dangerous Gareth Roberts was the Carmel top scorer but he fell LBW to Moulson for 39.

Das and Lynam cleaned up the Carmel tail as Das took 2 of the last 3 wickets to finish with 3 for 15 and Lynam 2 for 30.

This was an excellent 7-3 points victory for Abergele and one that must surely keep their status as a second division team for next season.
