Dave's College Basketball Picks, Mar. 6: San Francisco at Pepperdine

dave darbySenior Analyst IMarch 6, 2009

San Francisco (11-18, 3-11) at Pepperdine (8-22, 5-9)

Line: San Francisco -5.5

San Francisco defeated their first round foes Pepperdine 70-62 on Saturday to conclude a seventh place finish in the West Coast Conference. The two teams split during the regular season with the visiting team winning each time.

The Dons jumped out to a seven point halftime lead and made 17 more free throws than Pepperdine. San Francisco is now 3-11 in their last 14 games.  For Pepperdine it was the fourth loss in a row and the Waves finished sixth in the regular season standings.  The winner of this game plays Portland on Saturday.

ATS-

San Francisco is 11-13-1 against the spread including 6-8-1 on the road

Pepperdine is 14-13 against the spread including 7-6 on the road

A little unusual that the lower seed would be the favorite on a neutral court, however recent results and statistics favor San Francisco. Pepperdine is near the bottom in the conference on both offense and defense while the Dons are slightly better in both categories.

Pepperdine needs a low scoring game to have a chance as they don’t have the fire power to keep up with San Francisco if the tempo is fast.

Dave’s Pick: San Francisco -5.5
