In the wake of the news that Santonio Holmes will likely miss the rest of the season, CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reported Wednesday morning via Twitter that the Jets have signed wide receiver Jason Hill.

If the name sounds familiar, Hill was the no-name Jaguars receiver who talked trash to Darrelle Revis in the week leading up to Jacksonville's 2011 showdown with the Jets, only to sit out the 32-3 Jets victory.

Needless to say, he drew ridicule from Antonio Cromartie and Revis.

As for his play on the field, Hill has been less than stellar since being drafted in the third round of the 2007 NFL draft.  After running a 4.32 40-yard dash at the 2007 NFL Combine, Hill's draft stock rose considerably.

It was generally considered that Hill was a great choice by the 49ers as a third-round pick.  He was projected by NFL Draft Scout as a second-round pick.

Last season was his most productive, catching 25 passes for 367 yards and three touchdowns while starting 10 games for the Jaguars.

He was waived on November 10 of last season, despite being the team's second-leading receiver at the time.

Hill spent the 2012 preseason in camp with the Denver Broncos but was released on August 31. Hill did have some productive moments in camp with the Broncos but was among the team's final cuts.

Hill is 27 years old and is listed at 6'1", 190 pounds.

Hill joins a Jets wide receiving corps that now consists of Stephen Hill, Jeremy Kerley, Clyde Gates and Chaz Schilens. Royce Pollard still remains on the Jets practice squad, and Patrick Turner was released on Tuesday (per ESPN.com).
