Minnesota Golden Gophers: Do They Deserve To Go To The Dance?

Bob DunhamContributor IMarch 9, 2009

The Minnesota Golden Gophers at one point in the season were 12-0. Since then they have went 9-9.  But even with a 21 - 9 record, do they belong in the NCAA Tournament?

They beat Louisville, and were competitive against Michigan State and Purdue.  But key losses down the stretch may have doomed there ticket to the big dance.

They go into the Big Ten Tournament against Northwestern, a team they lost to in Dec. and then beat overwhelmingly in Feb.  Even if they get past the Wildcats, they face a potential No. 1 seed in Michigan State.

Some reports have the Gophers going into the tourney as a No. 11 seed even with a first-round loss.

Does the Big Ten deserve seven teams in the dance? Do the Gophers belong there? These questions and more will be answered in the next few days.
