2014 4-star quarterback Will Grier set a national record this past weekend with 837 passing yards in a high school football game.

How will this impact his recruitment?

Langston Wertz Jr. of charlotteobserver.com reports on Grier's phenomenal passing night:

The N.C. Independent Schools don’t keep a N.C. record book, but comparing the numbers against The Observer’s and N.C. High School Athletic Association records reveals that:

•  Davidson Day junior quarterback Will Grier threw for a national record 837 yards. The old mark of 764 was set by Pacific Palisades (Calif.) QB David Koral in 2000. Friday night, Grier completed 35-of-42 passes and threw for a new N.C. record 10 touchdowns. The 10 touchdowns ties six other players for the national record, originally set in 1990.

Grier was already one of the better junior quarterback recruits in the nation—he's listed as the No. 5  2014 pro-style quarterback in the country according to the 247Sports composite rankings—but this performance will definitely garner him a lot more attention.

No matter the level of football, throwing for 837 yards is an incredible feat, but let's not just look at the yardage when examining Grier's performance.

Even more impressive to me is the fact that he went 35-of-42.

This means that not only did Grier put up a ton of yards, but he was also incredibly accurate, and that may actually be the more important stat to colleges.

Right now he has Florida, North Carolina and Tennessee on top of his interest list, according to 247Sports, and those are his three biggest offers.

He also holds offers from East Carolina, Louisiana-Lafayette and Wake Forest.

At the very least, his record-setting game will put him on the early radar with a few more schools. Truthfully, a lot of that will have to do with his ability to sustain his great play though.

We shouldn't expect 837 yards again, or anything remotely close, but top schools will be looking to see if he can remain playing at a very high level. He still has his whole senior year to impact his standing with a lot of programs, and if he can keep up the terrific play, I wouldn't be surprised to see offers coming in from some of the bigger programs in the country.

We've known that Grier is talented, and now he has just given elite programs more of a reason to give him a serious look.

From here on out it's all about sustaining greatness.

One game, as impressive as it was, won't mean a lot to the elite programs out there in the college football world. They'll want to see a quarterback that can consistently play at that high level, so Grier still does have a lot to prove if he wants to propel himself up to the elite level of recruits for 2014.

He has put himself on the national radar, but now it's up to him to keep himself there.
