LSU Football: Presser Proves Les Miles Still Most Entertaining Man in the SEC

T.J. McaloonContributorNovember 18, 2012

There are head coaches who are entertaining by the way they speak, like Texas Longhorns head coach Mack Brown. And then there is the entertainment that LSU head coach Les Miles brings to a press conference, television commercial or just by walking the sidelines.

We’ve seen Coach Miles eat grass on the sideline, appear in ESPN commercials and make some head-scratching play calls in big conference matchups

However, we haven’t seen anything like this.

While speaking to reporters after LSU’s thrilling come-from-behind 41-35 victory over Ole Miss, Miles got a little emotional.

OK, saying "a little" is underplaying how much he cares for the effort from his players. I’ll just let the video (h/t The Big Lead) do the talking.

Miles does make a great point—his team could have folded against Ole Miss.

This team was playing terrible against the Rebels, as they turned the ball over three times and were losing for a majority of the game. Plus, with Alabama more than likely winning the SEC West next week when they travel to Auburn, and with little to no shot at the BCS title, the Tigers weren’t playing for anything in particular.

LSU players could have said, as Miles pointed out, “it’s their night.”

They could have taken a loss, on senior night, and conceded any BCS bowl game hopes and taken a second-tier bowl like the Cotton Bowl.

Instead, the Tiger players kept on fighting and found that one play to turn the momentum in their favor, a 89-yard punt return by Odell Beckham with 9:10 left in the fourth quarter.

After that return, Ole Miss converted only one first down, gave up two sacks to the Tigers defense, and then missed a 53-yard field-goal attempt. LSU, meanwhile, took its next possession and drove the ball 64 yards on nine plays for the game-winning score with 15 seconds remaining in the contest.

Such a roller-coaster of a game would make any coach sound crazy in their postgame press conference. Luckily for us, it was Coach Miles who reminded us why he is the “Mad Hatter” and the “Most Interesting Coach in the World.”

And just like in those commercials, I’m sure you could make one for Coach Miles that would say, “I don’t always make the right call on fourth down, but when I do, I make sure to make something epic out of it.

“Stay crazy my friends.”
