NASCAR star and former IndyCar driver Danica Patrick delivered some sad news on Tuesday when she announced that she and her husband would be divorcing.

The news was tweeted out by the Associated Press and also released via Patrick's Facebook page.

Here is what the driver had to say to her fans during the personal tumult.

I am sad to inform my fans that after 7 years, Paul and I have decided to amicably end our marriage. This isn't easy for either of us, but mutually it has come to this. He has been an important person and friend in my life and that's how we will remain moving forward.

The Associated Press report reminds fans that her husband, Paul Hospenthal, is a physical therapist and also 17 years older than the famous 30-year-old athlete.

For Patrick, this marks yet another momentous change in her life, albeit a painful one. She recently finished her first season driving full-time in NASCAR.

She managed to finish 10th in the Nationwide rankings, enjoying four top-10 finishes on the season and a total of 838 points.

Besides her move to NASCAR, she continues to be the leading lady in GoDaddy.com's rampant marketing campaign.

If that weren't enough, we reported back in August that Patrick went country in her stint as a music video beauty in Miranda Lambert's "Fastest Girl in Town."

Unfortunately, all of that good news and the promise that seems to loom on the horizon was halted with reports of the divorce.

The bright side is it seems both Patrick and Hospenthal will split on good terms.
