The 49ers defeat the Saints 31-21 at the Superdome

With Colin Kaepernick behind center, the San Francisco 49ers improved to 8-2-1 on the season. In an exciting back-and-forth contest, the Niners came out on top. Kaepernick was able to make the throws he needed to make, and ran when necessary.

On a short week, Kaepernick came out and continued to show what he brings to the table.

However, he was supported by an outstanding defensive performance. The 49ers D had two pick-6's on the day, limiting Brees and his high-powered offense.

Meanwhile, Alex Smith watched the entire game from the sideline with his helmet on, ready to go -- but he never got the call. This story will only develop this coming week. The Niners could be moving into the Kaepernick era as they gear up for a title run this year.

Even though this is a joyous time for 49ers fans, there are a lot of questions to be answered. Kaepernick just took out two NFC juggernauts in the Bears and Saints in back-to-back weeks. We'll see where the team goes from here.
