CM Punk is at the height of his wrestling career.
His year-long title run has been extremely impressive, and most importantly, it shows that World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) is committed to him being champion.
However, despite all the heights and success, WWE is struggling mightily to grasp any sort of ratings momentum in 2012. The company has failed to remain competitive in the tough cable television market and a change is needed.
Unfortunately, Punk will be that victim of change.
With the Royal Rumble arriving quickly in January, WWE must begin its 2013 year on a strong note. That strong note would have WWE legend The Rock capture the title from Punk at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view.
On the flip side, The Rock's championship run would not last long and could end at WrestleMania to whomever his opponent is. Despite the title reign possibly being short, The Rock is what the WWE needs to get back on course and create an instant jolt of momentum heading into its WrestleMania season.
If The Rock were to be crowned as champion at the Royal Rumble, Punk should indefinitely remain in the title picture. With The Rock as champion, WWE has a great opportunity to not only become relevant again, but can also begin to build up its biggest WrestleMania in history.
How should the WWE go about this title picture? Below are my predictions storyline wise in the near future:
The Rock defeats CM Punk at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view to capture the WWE Championship.
The Rock retains the WWE Championship against CM Punk at the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view.
John Cena defeats The Rock for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania.
In the end, Cena should jump into the title picture and defeat The Rock at WrestleMania. WWE has all the ability to make the right moves to help the company grow while The Rock is champion. Once 2013 comes rolling along, things should get interesting in the WWE.
