English Premier League—Old Trafford, Manchester

Manchester United 1-0 West Ham

Sir Alex Ferguson's men extended their stay at the top of the English Premier League thanks to a goal after 31 seconds from Robin van Persie.

The game was an evenly contested affair with West Ham showing up to play, but a lack of cutting edge from either side saw proceedings end 1-0.

Anderson was given a rare start and Phil Jones made a cameo return from injury, but there wasn't too much more to shout about for the Red Devils faithful.

West Ham came closest when Anders Lindegaard palmed Carlton Cole's effort onto the post late in the second half.
