Temple HC Steve Addazio Reportedly Agrees to Coach Boston College

The Boston College Eagles fired former head coach Frank Spaziani after a 2-10 finish this season, and it appears that the program has found his replacement.

According to Sports Illustrated's Pete Thamel, Temple head coach Steve Addazio will run the show for the Eagles next season:

BREAKING: BC will hire Temple Coach Steve Addazio. Team meetings at 5 at both places. sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/writers/p…

This isn't like Bret Bielema to Arkansas (via ESPN), where no one expected it. According to Thamel's report, Addazio was considered for the Boston College job four years ago, but he couldn't interview after having surgery.

Addazio went 13-11 in two years with the Owls. He eased the program's transition from the MAC to the Big East and injected life into a team that isn't necessarily known for its football prowess.

Boston College desperately needs a shot in the arm. The Eagles have gotten worse in each of the last four seasons, leaving the program with no sense of direction. Addazio's intensity and experience in big situations (won two national titles with Urban Meyer at Florida) will benefit the current team.

According to Thamel's report, "New Boston College athletic director Brad Bates tabbed Addazio, in part, for his ability to recruit the Northeast corridor."

Thamel also notes that this is the same guy who lured Aaron Hernandez to Florida and Dwight Freeney to Syracuse, so he must know a thing or two about the recruiting trail.

Turning BC around overnight will be difficult, but Addazio has the right mindset to make it happen. Because of his previous interest in the program, he will be motivated and eager to make his mark.

This isn't the most hyped move on college football's coaching carousel, but it's a good fit for both sides.
