The Road to WrestleMania is in full effect for wrestling fans. Everyone is looking forward to the WWE Championship match between The Rock and CM Punk at the Royal Rumble. As the days get closer and closer to WrestleMania, the chatter and rumor mill begins to heat up.
Based on the info that is being leaked to the public right now, it seems like a near certainty that CM Punk's WWE Championship reign will end before WrestleMania, with The Rock likely to walk into MetLife Stadium as champion. According to tpww.net, there are rumors that The Rock will defend the WWE Title against John Cena in a rematch of last year's match billed as "Once in a Lifetime."
Well, obviously it is not going to be. Where does that leave CM Punk? Well, CM Punk will then look to do the unthinkable, and end The Undertaker's WrestleMania Streak. Personally, I would like to see The Undertaker face Brock Lesnar, but if the WWE does decide to make CM Punk vs. The Undertaker for WrestleMania 29, then they should make it historic and put the Undertaker's WrestleMania Streak up against CM Punk's title reign.
This match would instantly become one of the 15 greatest matches ever based on hype and potential promos alone. WrestleMania 29 will easily have close to a million PPV buys.
WWE could market the fact that CM Punk and The Undertaker do not really have a lot of history with each other, outside of that feud in the Fall of 2009, when the two men had memorable matches at Breaking Point and Hell in a Cell for the World Heavyweight Championship.
CM Punk is a completely different wrestler and character from 2009, and for that matter, so is The Undertaker. By The Undertaker really only working a handful of nights out of the year, he should be able to withstand anything that the great CM Punk throws at him. It really should be a great match.
I know that the thought of this match bothers a lot of fans because of the potential outcomes involved. On one side, you have a dominant champion in CM Punk who has defeated everyone, only to lose to a man who is only active maybe 5 out of the 365 days a year.
On the other hand, there is the thought that CM Punk could possibly end The Streak. I understand both sides, which is why from a business standpoint the match should be made. People are going to watch to see what happens.
I believe that the Undertaker's streak will never be broken, and as such, I think that The Undertaker would defeat CM Punk for The WWE Title at WrestleMania 29. That may sound bad in theory, but if anybody deserves that moment, it is The Undertaker.
If WrestleMania 29 is The Undertaker's last match, then he can come out on Raw the next night and announce his retirement as WWE Champion, or maybe Vince McMahon can reach a deal where he loses to CM Punk in a rematch at Extreme Rules. Perhaps The Shield will get involved in some way. Regardless, the fact remains that if CM Punk vs The Undertaker happens at WrestleMania, it should be a match of epic proportions, and there is only one way to do that.
CM Punk vs The Undertaker has to be for the title if it happens at WrestleMania.
