The 30-man battle royal main event of WWE’s 2013 Royal Rumble is one of the most exciting matches in wrestling today, and this year’s edition will be no different.

With the perfect opportunity to have injured superstars reappear or have veterans return to the WWE, the Royal Rumble match is one of the most interesting and impactful on the road to WrestleMania.

All of the following WWE superstars are on the right track toward a Royal Rumble victory, but only one will be able to walk away as the No. 1 contender wit a title shot at WrestleMania 29.

3. Sheamus

After having one of the longest World Championship reigns in recent history, Sheamus has catapulted himself into the upper echelon of WWE superstars and will be one of the final men left in the ring Sunday night.

We can’t forget that it was Sheamus who won this match last year.

As one of the most marketable stars the company has, there is little doubt that Sheamus will be around the world title scene for many years to come, and one way to get the Irish star back into the picture is via the Royal Rumble.

Sheamus will likely not win, but there is a good chance he could be building his next feud in the match and during the elimination from the Rumble.

The hot-tempered former champion will be looking for a fight when he gets dumped from the ring.

2. Randy Orton

There is nothing that would further a Randy Orton heel turn at the Royal Rumble more than having the Viper cost both John Cena and Sheamus a chance at a the victory before stealing the show and winning it himself.

Orton could challenge for the World Heavyweight Championship and whoever would be champion at WrestleMania—the current champ Alberto Del Rio or possibly even Sheamus—and continue his evolution into a more interesting heel character.

As we have seen with Orton’s interaction with Sheamus over the past few weeks, the WWE is teasing a heel turn coming for the Viper. With the perfect chance to flip a couple faces out of the ring, the company could make a big step toward a successful heel turn Sunday.

Look for Orton to join Cena in the final three before being eliminated by Sheamus in what could be the continuation of their budding feud.

1. John Cena

There are many reasons why John Cena will be a favorite to win the Royal Rumble in 2013—the top star in the WWE and the face of the company—but the biggest reason will be The Rock.

With The Rock returning at the Royal Rumble to square off against CM Punk for the WWE title, it is clear that the part-time veteran will win the championship and move on to Elimination Chamber to defend it successfully.

If The Rock is indeed planned to be the champion leading into WrestleMania 29, the winner of the Royal Rumble has to be a star worthy of a main event on the biggest stage of them all.

There is only one star worthy of that stage: John Cena.

As talented as Sheamus, Randy Orton and all the other WWE superstars are, Cena is the clear favorite to win the Rumble and fight The Rock at WrestleMania 29 for the WWE Title in the main event.

Cena will likely win the title, too.
