Chelsea has been active during the January transfer window, but it still has an opportunity to do more. One way to seriously improve is to add Isco before another club does.

Isco is a 20-year-old forward on Malaga who has gained a lot of attention from the top clubs in the English Premier League. He has not put up huge statistics to this point, but he has loads of talent and is certain to be a star for years to come.

However, a transfer will not come easily. While he apparently wants to leave his La Liga club, he has a large buyout on his contract and Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham all want to acquire the youngster as well.

Fortunately, Chelsea has gotten a leg-up on the competition. Richard Arrowsmith of the Daily Mirror reported that the club has loaned Lucas Piazon to Malaga for the remainder of the season.

This allows the Blues to enter into negotiations with the Spanish club about making the other deal happen.

Tom Hopkinson of the Daily Mirror explains that this could be the first step towards a transfer for Isco:

The deal to send Piazon to the La Liga club last week strengthened their hand further as Malaga prepare to cash in on the £19 million-rated Isco.

The Blues would love to get a deal done for Isco, 20, this month but Malaga will try to hold off until the summer. The Spaniards will ask Chelsea for a cash-plus-player deal that will include Piazon joining them on a permanent contract.

If this is the case, it would be a very smart move for the club.

By sending over Piazon, the Blues become weak up front. Demba Ba was a great addition, but he and Fernando Torres represent the only true strikers on the roster.

Chelsea has been inconsistent offensively over the past few weeks. At times, the group can explode for four goals or more. However, there are also matches where no one can seem to put the ball on net.

While Isco is expected to contribute more down the road, he can also help the current squad.

In four Champions League matches this season, he has two goals and two assists. His most recent goal came against Real Madrid in a 3-2 victory.

The young player has saved his best performances for the most important matches, and this clutch ability will be helpful for the EPL squad.

Even if a deal cannot get done before the end of January, this is absolutely something that must take place over the summer. Isco has shown a great deal of potential and could be the next great scorer on Chelsea.

He is already showing quite a future with the Spanish national team, and that alone will help shape him into an elite player.

The Blues must acquire the forward and make sure he does not go to a rival club in the Premier League.

Otherwise, this is something they will regret for years to come.
