Emmanuel Frimpong Joins Fulham on Loan from Arsenal

Emmanuel Frimpong is leaving Arsenal, but he's not going very far.

According to Arsenal's official website, the 21-year-old defensive midfielder is joining city rivals Fulham on loan for the remainder of the season.

It'll be a fresh start with a top-tier club for Frimpong, who just returned to the Gunners from a loan spell with Championship side Charlton Athletic.

From Arsenal's standpoint, it looks to be more a move to develop the Ghanaian international who featured just twice for the senior squad during League Cup victories over Coventry City and Reading.

He was on the pitch a bit more for Charlton Athletic, making six starts for the Saints and showing himself to have strong possession and interception capabilities. He's also a pinpoint passer, setting teammates up well when he's holding the midfield.

Fulham's current defensive midfielder, Steve Sidwell, has been an anchor for the Cottagers along the back line. Sidwell did just turn 30 years old last month, so he could need a spell on the bench every once in a while.

Will Frimpong get some much-needed experience with Fulham and return to Arsenal as a real option at defensive midfielder, or will he find himself riding the Cottagers' bench and need another year of loan spells to make himself useful?
