Dolph Ziggler's star can only grow with a good showing during the 2013 Royal Rumble Match.
Coming in at either No. 1 or No. 2 allows Ziggler to last 45 minutes-plus without actually winning the match. He could get a few key eliminations, making it down to the final four or five of the Rumble. Then he gets dumped out by Cena or somebody he could feud with over the World Heavyweight Title.
The fans would continue to think of him as a serious threat for and credible holder of the title, and it could possibly create a new foil for him other than Cena.
Here's three additional things that need to happen during the Rumble match.
1. One Member of Team Hell No Eliminates the Other
Kane and Daniel Bryan will probably face each other at WrestleMania XXIX. The wheels need to start turning at the Royal Rumble for their breakup.
It could start with a defeat at the hands of Team Rhodes Scholars. That's bad enough, but the two will move past it. Things will hit a boiling point should Bryan eliminate Kane from the Rumble, or the other way around.
Dr. Shelby will have to be brought in to ensure the tag partners don't forget their anger management training. Then at the Elimination Chamber, they finally have their big blowup after losing the title again, or something like that.
The fans would really be into a Kane/Bryan feud because they've become very invested in watching the two move past their anger issues and become a solid tag team.
2. The Shield Wreaks Havoc
Whether or not the Shield is officially in the Rumble match, they need to eliminate at least one or two of the key players.
Their involvement in the WWE Title match between The Rock and CM Punk looks to be nonexistent. It wouldn't make sense at this point for them to cost Punk the title by interfering.
In order to have an impact on the pay-per-view, the Shield needs to interfere in the Rumble if they're not already participants.
In fact, it would probably be better if they weren't actually entrants. Their aura of somewhat invincibility would be much more emboldened if they didn't get eliminated.
The Shield would just walk out from the crowd, dump out like Ryback or Orton, beat him up outside the ring and then just leave.
3. The Rock Gets John Cena Eliminated
In a perfect world, John Cena screws The Rock in his match with CM Punk and in turn, Rock screws Cena in the Rumble. That's unlikely to happen because WWE won't want to ruin Cena's image too much by having him cost Rock the match.
It's a great way for a Rock/Cena feud to still feel fresh. Fans already got a taste of the rivalry last year. If the two will wrestle each other for the second WrestleMania in a row, there needs to be an added element.
Punk could retain his title going into Elimination Chamber, then get pinned somebody other than The Rock, who would win the title. Then, WWE could have a Triple Threat match involving the three at WrestleMania XXIX.
Should the company want to keep Punk out of it, then at least Rock and Cena's actions would add in a revenge factor to make their match more compelling at WrestleMania.
