WWE: Wade Barrett Announces Cancellation of Intercontinental Cup

If you need any further proof that WWE has no idea what it's doing long term, or even a few weeks into the future, look no further than the now defunct Intercontinental Cup.

I am pleased to announce that I have managed to negotiate a complete cancellation of the  tournament.

The Miz, Kofi Kingston, Darren Young, Antonio Cesaro, Dolph Ziggler, Cody Rhodes, Damien Sandow and Randy Orton were set to compete in a tournament over several weeks on WWE's newest primetime show Main Event on Wednesday nights.

The winner would have received a shot at Barrett's title.

Since the initial announcement of this tournament, Barrett has begun a program with newcomer Bo Dallas, who was recently brought up to the main roster from NXT. The son of "IRS" Mike Rotundo, nephew of Barry Windham and grandson of Black Jack Mulligan, Dallas has the pedigree to be a star, and they are testing him against Barrett first. Dallas eliminated Barrett from the Royal Rumble and stunned him with a pinfall victory on Monday Night Raw.

WWE had even run a TV spot for the Intercontinental Cup this week, but have seemingly pulled the plug on the storyline before it even began.
