Ohio State Football Recruiting: Vonn Bell Is Last Missing Piece for 2013 Class

Ohio State has already put together one of the best recruiting classes in the country. However, the addition of Vonn Bell can set it apart from the rest.

According to 247Sports, Urban Meyer already has the No. 2 recruiting class in the nation. Talented players like Eli Apple, Trey Johnson and Ezekiel Elliot make it a dominant group compared to others in the country.

The late addition of Dontre Wilson, who flipped from Oregon to the Buckeyes according to Gabriel Baumgaertner of Sports Illustrated, makes it even better.

However, there are two problems with the class as it stands. First, it is lacking high-end talent, as none of the players are 5-star rated. Also, there are few possible additions that could make it better.

This last part will likely push the class down the rankings on national signing day as other schools get high-profile players.

Of course, that is unless the Buckeyes are able to get a commitment from Bell on Wednesday.

The safety is a 5-star recruit according to the composite rankings on 247 Sports and would be able to make a huge impact down the line for the Buckeyes.

Bell is excellent in pass coverage with the quickness to stay with players and the speed to cover the entire field. He also has great hands that will allow him to make game-changing interceptions at the next level.

In addition, he is not afraid to lay a big hit on a receiver and really send a message to opposing players.

Although Ohio State does not have a direct need for safeties next season, he will certainly use the time to bulk up and learn the system. By the time he steps onto the field, he could be one of the top players in the country at his position.

The bad news is that the competition for the elite player is strong. Alabama and Tennessee are both in the running, and his official visit to Columbus was almost a month ago. Each of these teams has put ideas into the young player's head since then.

Still, the impact that he can have on the Buckeyes means that they should not give up on him just yet.

Ohio State is waiting on a few other decisions this week, including players like James Clark and Cornelius Elder. However, none of them have the potential of Bell.

This last addition could turn the class from great to elite, and possibly the best in the nation. This is a scary thought for a team that went 12-0 last season.

It would also make Buckeyes fans the most relaxed in the country on national signing day.
