Kate Upton is not your everyday model. Not only is she incredibly beautiful, but she is also a sports fan's best friend.

The 20-year-old was featured on the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue this week for the second year in a row. The magazine's official Twitter account posted the picture online:

This alone puts her in an elite company of models who have graced the cover multiple times. While Elle Macpherson, Kathy Ireland and others used this to boost their careers in different areas, Upton has the opportunity to stay in the spotlight for much longer.

She has already become a household name among the very large demographic of sports fans.

While the Swimsuit Issue gets delivered to readers of SI, this is just the tip of the iceberg. Over the past couple of years, she has completely immersed herself into this world.

First of all, she is a genuine fan that attends games regularly. Upton has been spotted courtside at a number of basketball games and even dancing in the stands.

The Michigan native also will be at plenty of Detroit Tigers games this season, as she is dating pitcher Justin Verlander. The two were spotted enjoying some free time at St. Thomas, according to the New York Post.

Do not be surprised if the camera shows her plenty of times during each game that she attends.

Another way that she has boosted her fame is her appearances in commercials. While other models endorse makeup and hair products that will be ignored by male fans, Upton starred in spots for MLB 2K12.

Additionally, she was in one of the more popular Super Bowl commercials this year for Mercedes-Benz.

These are the types of things that will keep her in the minds of a large audience.

Finally, Upton has signed up for a few celebrity all-star activities that includes both softball and flag football. She has shown the type of fun-loving personality that will keep people interested in what she does in the future.

The career of a model is relatively short and some believe that Upton is simply enjoying her "15 minutes of fame."

However, she has aligned herself with the right group of people and will be in the spotlight for a long time.
