Can the Rock Be a Part-Time WWE Champion?

Alfred KonuwaFeatured ColumnistFebruary 25, 2013

The Rock as WWE champion has been a controversial decision given his part-time status with the WWE.  Rock has been a polarizing figure in the WWE locker room and in the pro wrestling media.  To some, he is a savior to the once-sagging WrestleMania brand that disappointed commercially as recent as 2010.  To others?  A spotlight-hogging Hollywood phony.

Having an A-list movie star so heavily involved in the WWE product is great for the promotion’s Q rating, especially with their biggest show of the year around the corner.

But just how good can The Rock be as a part-time champion?  Is he really a champion or just a guy from Hollywood carrying around a belt?

Will a WWE title defense by The Rock at WrestleMania 29 be enough to out-draw record-setting pay-per-view numbers from WrestleMania XXVIII?  And how will The Rock’s busy 2013 movie season affect promotion for the WWE, WrestleMania and the WWE Championship?
