Wade Barrett has been stuck in neutral since his return from an elbow injury and filming Dead Man Down.
He regained the Intercontinental Title from Kofi Kingston at the Dec. 31 taping of WWE SmackDown. Barrett has floundered with the title because he’s had no one to feud with. He could’ve been feuding with Bo Dallas, but nothing progressed after Dallas eliminated Barrett at the Royal Rumble. Barrett also could’ve feuded with Kingston but that didn’t last either.
Barrett was the same man who main evented three pay-per-views in a row. In 2010, he fought Randy Orton for the WWE title on Bragging Rights and Survivor Series, and fought John Cena on TLC.
Barrett hasn’t been in pay-per-view main events since. However, there is one man who could get him back to the main event scene.
Sheamus can help Wade Barrett reach the main event again.
The Celtic Warrior reached high-profile matches since his World title reign began at WrestleMania 28. He’s put on quality matches with Orton, Chris Jericho, Daniel Bryan, Dolph Ziggler, Alberto Del Rio and Big Show throughout the 2012 campaign.
Despite his track record, Sheamus needs that one opponent who can match his style of wrestling. Enter Wade Barrett.
Barrett and Sheamus have fought since 2011 at house shows. They’ve fought the same physical style to great results on both Raw and SmackDown. There’s one minor problem, namely, these matches have not been on pay-per-view.
It seems Sheamus and Barrett could be in a feud in the foreseeable future. Sheamus’ criticism of Barrett’s role could lead to an inevitable confrontation between the two at a pay-per-view event. It might not be at WrestleMania 29, however. Sheamus should most likely be teaming up with Orton against The Shield in some capacity.
They’ve got plenty of time to wrestle. The 2013 campaign can be Barrett’s year. However, he needs to go to Sheamus to reach the main event again.
