WWE has taken the first step in regard to properly recognizing the greatness that was Paul Bearer. WWE has released a video tribute of the late great WWE manager.
This was a very nicely put-together video package. It was nice to see some footage from his early days as Percy Pringle. It was also very touching to have Vince McMahon do the opening commentary in the video. When McMahon himself takes part in commentating on a video package, you know it is something special.
The other two highlights of this video were the WWE Superstars impersonating Bearer's trademark shriek and the closing. Having Undertaker close the video was an obvious choice. The reason it's awesome, though, is because the WWE Universe most likely will not have the chance to hear from Undertaker. The role of Undertaker does not allow for him to break his character very often. That being said, it seems very unlikely that he would release any kind of statement or comment regarding Bearer's death.
Of course, it is always possible that WWE infuses this into the Undertaker and Punk feud. If this were to happen, then it would allow for Undertaker to openly comment on the situation.
Moving forward, the next question is going to be about the WWE Hall of Fame. Will they induct Bearer into this year's class? If there isn't enough time or if they decide not to, will they hold a tribute for him that night or on Raw? One also has to wonder if Undertaker will find a way to give a nod to Bearer on the night of WrestleMania itself.
The wrestling world suffered a huge loss this week. Thus far, it's nice to see that WWE is paying Bearer the proper respect that he deserves.
