When the weather starts to warm up, so does the transfer talk.  Liverpool has been linked with several players they may be targeting or pure speculation.

Rafael Benitez has the power he crazes in the transfer market, after Rick Parry’s summer departure, with approximately 30 million pounds at his disposal.

The usual names are there. Valencia pair: striker David Villa and winger David Silva, Aston Villa midfielder Gareth Barry. Strikers Mauro Zarate; currently on loan with Lazio, after a loan spell with Birmingham last season and Roque Santa Cruz has also been linked with moves to Anfield.

Valencia have been in financial difficulties for much of the past few years, yet managed to hold onto their prized possessions: Villa and Silva.  This summer they face the real possibility of having to sell one or both to keep the club afloat.  Though it seems Silva may not be heading to England, after his previous comments stating he wants to remain in Spain.

David Villa is a top quality striker, but would he fit into Liverpool’s plans?  Torres and Villa both stared up front for the Euro 2008 winners Spain, but there are still questions whether they are a good fit to play together.  Liverpool may be hesitant to buy a striker for a large sum of money, with question marks looming, especially after the Robbie Keane disaster.

Gareth Barry wants out at Villa after their failure for Champions League football and may still end up in a Liverpool shirt.  The addition of Barry would give Liverpool a top central midfield in the entire world.  Barry or Alonso would be able to step in and give Gerrard a break from time to time.

Roque Santa Cruz could be on his way to Anfield, the Reds are apparently willing to talk to Blackburn with a transfer fee between 20-30 million pounds.

Every summer players come and go, some Liverpool players that may be wearing another kit next season are Daniel Agger, Andrea Dossena, Ryan Babel, and if most Liverpool fans get their wish, Lucas Leiva will be leaving the club.

Daniel Agger’s Liverpool future is still up in the air with negotiations, he wants more first team football after being stuck behind Jamie Carragher and Martin Skrtel.

If Agger is placed on the transfer market, there will be a long line of possible suitors and Liverpool would need a central defender to replace him.

Andrea Dossena and Ryan Babel have also been mentioned as possible Reds players departing over the summer months.

Dossena never settled in England with his greatest successes coming in a left midfield role, a few late goals against Real Madrid and Manchester United.  The goals were not crucial, yet added injury to insult Liverpool’s rivals.

Babel asked to be loaned back to his former club Ajax in January, that request was denied, yet he could be on his way out looking for regular first team football.

Lucas Leiva’s departure would be welcomed by many Liverpool fans, who have seen more mistakes than potential from the young Brazilian.

Benitez has been given around 30 million pounds with that it is imperative that a striker and top class winger be purchased to add to Liverpool’s attacking options.  Barry would be a great addition for the right price.

With the Premiership title in their sights, a few key summer signings will put Liverpool in position to challenge for the title in upcoming years.
