With the money PSG has shelled out the last two seasons, it is no surprise to see the list of high-priced players linked with them. With the unfulfilled hunger left by their Champions League exit, it will be of no surprise to see them open the check book in grand fashion this summer.
A report in Football Italia is quoting French radio RMC's claim that a deal for Edinson Cavani has been agreed upon by PSG. The report states that a four-year deal has been agreed upon with the forward.
We all know the closing of the domestic seasons leads to many claims that have little basis. With no major international competitions to look forward to, and with many of the top leagues' title races already decided, expect the rumor traffic to heat up sooner than usual.
With neither Napoli or PSG having confirmed a deal has been reached, fans of either club should not get too excited or depressed just yet.
The chance that Cavani will make his way out this summer is highly possible. His form has led to much speculation as to potential landing points. With the release clause set at €63m, only a few teams can be considered serious contenders for his services.
It is from this point that a move to PSG makes sense. They can afford to trigger the release clause and pay him accordingly. It also makes sense considering what Cavani would bring to PSG on the pitch. Considering the multiple attacking players linked with PSG, Edinson Cavani may be the best fit.
Cavani would make PSG less dependent on Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the attack. The over reliance on Ibra has been a struggle for PSG at times this season. Cavani would give PSG that other dangerous threat needed to balance the attack.
With Cavani's talents as a forward, Carlo Ancelotti could allow Ibrahimovic to play a little deeper. This would allow Ibra to use his abilities to distribute, and give him the opportunity to find openings to run into.
Adding another finisher of Cavani's quality would help balance out PSG's attack. Having Cavani upfront as a threat opens more space for Lucas Moura and Ezequiel Lavezzi to use their creative talents as well.
The familiarity between Cavani and Lavezzi from their Napoli days would benefit the integration into the squad. The South American contingent PSG possess would also ease the transition for Cavani.
A move for Cavani would show that PSG is going all in for the Champions League now. If the reports about the agreement are true, PSG will have made a move that will see them enter this fall as one of the favorites for claiming Europe's most coveted prize.
