The Detroit Red Wings are not going to miss the playoffs without a fight.

They played a tight and tenacious defensive game against the defending Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings, and they also took advantage of their offensive opportunities.

The Red Wings came away with a 3-1 victory at Joe Louis Arena.

The Red Wings dominated most of the action, but Kyle Clifford opened the scoring for the Kings in the second period.

Pavel Datsyuk, Jordin Tootoo and Johan Franzen scored for the Red Wings.

With the win, the Red Wings moved into eighth place.

They are one point ahead of the surprising Columbus Blue Jackets, and both teams have two games remaining.
