You may have heard the expression, "fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me." Former number one draft pick, Greg Oden, however, has not only fooled everyone once, and not even twice, but a whopping five times. Oden has teased NBA fans and NBA teams with his basketball talents and acumen, but the big man has had his knees operated on five times since his rookie year with the Portland Trailblazers.
However, according to former Ohio State teammate, Deshaun Thomas, Greg Oden has looked “unbelievable” in their recent workouts. Thomas and Oden have been training together for quite some time and Thomas is convinced that he is back.
"Man, he looks unbelievable," Thomas said at the NBA draft combine. "He's running. He's lifting weights. You might be seeing a comeback. He looks like he's ready to go. He's running, getting in shape. I'll tell you one thing. For a big 7-footer that's all he does, running and getting in shape. He's looking right."
Oden has developed the reputation of being a brittle big man and has been living under the shadow of Kevin Durant, the number two pick, ever since their rookie draft. But when healthy, every scout in the league knows what kind of force Oden can be in a league with such few big men. So, make no mistake, every team in the league will do their due diligence in evaluating the tantalizing big man, but the bigger question is whether or not Greg Oden will make a fool out of a team once again or give them a fortune.
