Phillies Minor League Notebook and Big League Notes

The Reading Phillies defeated the Bowie Baysox 6-3 in 10 innings at Prince George’s Stadium in Bowie, MD.RHP Carlos Carrasco, widely considered to be the Phillies best pitching prospect, allowed one run in five innings of work in his first start of the season. Justin Pope notched his second save in as many opportunities.

The Clearwater Threshers completed Sunday’s suspended game against the Lakeland Tigers before Monday’s regularly scheduled contest. The Threshers lost to the Tigers 6-5 as Jacob Blalock continued his slow start at the plate, going 1-for-5. Blalock is hitting .167 through the season’s first four games.

The Threshers won Monday’s regularly scheduled game, 3-2. The game was shortened to seven innings since the completion of Sunday’s game was played before it. John Urick, a player acquired in the Bobby Abreu trade with the Yankees, went 1-for-3 in the game and is hitting .353 on the season.

The Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs continued their opening week road trip with a 9-3 loss to the Pawtucket Red Sox. The Iron Pigs fell to 0-5 on the season and are still looking for the franchise’s first win. Jason Jaramillo may be starting to come out of his season-long slump as he went 1-for-4 with a run scored. Even with the effort, the catching prospect is hitting .143 on the young season.

The Lakewood BlueClaws were off on Monday night with a limited schedule of games being played in the South Atlantic League.  


The Phils begin a three-game series in Shea Stadium against the Mets on Tuesday afternoon in the Mets Home Opener. The Phils return home on Friday to start a nine-game home stand against the Chicago Cubs.

Pitching matchups for the Mets series have LHP Jamie Moyer facing LHP Oliver Perez on Tuesday, with RHP Kyle Kendrick dueling with RHP Mike Pelfrey on Wednesday, while RHP Adam Eaton goes against RHP John Maine in Thursday’s series finale.
