Notre Dame has picked up its 15th commitment for the 2014 class, represented by 4-star wide receiver Corey Holmes out of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Holmes took to Twitter to announce his commitment:
Officially committed to the University of Notre Dame #GoIrish— Corey Holmes#⃣1⃣ (@coreyholmes4) July 17, 2013
Derek Tyson of ESPN.com reported on the commitment, quoting Holmes' thoughts on the matter:
"It really came down, when it was time to make the decision, there were four schools I was really considering, and they were Notre Dame, UCLA, Florida and Oklahoma," Holmes said. "After visiting all four of those schools and meeting with coaches and some players that were part of the team, Notre Dame just fit the mold of everything I was looking for. Everything I was looking for in a college -- Notre Dame had.
"I just went with what God told me and went with what my gut told me to go with, and that was with Notre Dame. I feel as though they will prepare me best for life. Once I'm there, I want to be a part of a team that is a national championship contender and just be a part of a great program with great players. I want to be around players that want to be successful in life and also on the football field."
Holmes is a great commitment for Notre Dame, especially considering that the Fighting Irish out-dueled UCLA, Florida and Oklahoma for his pledge.
He's a big state-of-Florida commitment, and will go down as Notre Dame's first recruit from the state this cycle. According to the 247Sports composite rankings, Holmes is the No. 25 wideout nationally, and the No. 21 player from Florida.
He's 6'2'', 175 pounds and runs a 4.48 40, per 247Sports. That's a great combination of height and speed, so his raw intangibles check out.
He's a smooth runner with long strides, and he runs tremendous routes. Holmes displays good hands, and he isn't afraid to stretch out and go get the ball—and has the length to high-point it.
The combination of size and speed will make him a natural deep threat, but he also has great vision and elusiveness in the open field. Holmes will be able to take a short slant, bubble or hitch and make something happen after the catch. He can make defenders miss, but also isn't afraid to lower the shoulder and play physical football.
Holmes is the Fighting Irish's second 2014 wide receiver commitment, joining 4-star wideout Justin Brent
Notre Dame is ranked No. 7 according to the 247Sports team rankings.
