Liverpool’s Under-21s crushed their Tottenham counterparts 5-0, with Brad Smith scoring a long-range stunner during the rout.

Spurs made the trip up from North London to St Helens only to be on the receiving end of a hiding.

The Reds opened the scoring with a penalty from Adam Morgan, while two further goals from Cameron Brannagan and Ryan McLaughlin had them in command at the interval.

Smith turned on the style on 47 minutes, with a goal that would not have been out of place at Anfield rather than Langtree Park in St Helens.

There did not appear to be any imminent danger for Spurs when Smith collected a throw-in on the right flank.

But he spun away from his marker, skipped infield and curled a superb left-foot strike from 20 yards into the top corner.

Joao Carlos Teixeira scored Liverpool's fifth.
