How good is FC Barcelona? Even without injured stars like Lionel Messi, Carles Puyol and Javier Mascherano, the club has marched out to an 8-0 record this season. Most recently, Barca defeated Real Valladolid 4-1 on Saturday to remain unbeaten.
Alexis Sanchez scored two goals for Barca, including a match-tying score that eliminated Valladolid’s brief advantage in the first half. His second goal came in the second half when his club took control for the rest of the match. He also set up Neymar for his goal during the match.
Because of his stellar play on an injury-stricken club, Sanchez deserves to be named to the FIFA Ultimate Team of the Week on Wednesday. Every week EA Sports appoints a full squad of the players who performed best in the past week. Sanchez has earned a spot. Here’s three other players that are also deserving.
Landon Donovan and Robbie Keane, Los Angeles Galaxy
Sure it’s just Major League Soccer, but Donovan has proven in international play that he can excel against the world’s best. On Sunday, the veteran notched two goals in the Galaxy’s 5-0 romp over Chivas USA. He has 10 goals this season.
Keane was another shining star for the Galaxy in the match. He continued his onslaught for the current season with a pair of goals as well. He is fourth in the league in goals scored this season with a total of 15. EA Sports needs to flip their cards and put them on the team.
Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Borussia Monchengladbach
If there is a goalkeeper in the world who played better than ter Stegen last week, I missed it. Facing the mighty and previously unbeaten Borussia Dortmund, ter Stegen turned away eight shots on goal to keep his club in the game.
Ultimately Max Kruse gave Monchengladbach the lead with a penalty shot and Rafael Araujo sealed the victory with a goal five minutes later, but ter Stegen deserves most of the credit. Because of his strong performance against such a formidable opponent, he should be the keeper for Fifa Ultimate Team of the Week 4.
