The Bengals eek out a road win over Detroit, beating the Lions 27-24 as Mike Nugent nails a 54-yard field goal as time expires.

Some quick final thoughts:

  • Sam Martin picked a really bad time for his worst punt of his young career. His 27-yard shank set the Bengals up for the game winner.
  • I loved the blitz call by the Bengals on Detroit's final third down, as Reggie Nelson hurried Stafford into a throwaway. They caught the Lions unaware and it worked.
  • As I tweeted during the game, this was far and away the worst performance by the Detroit linebackers. Cincinnati abused them in coverage.
  • Another monster day from Calvin Johnson, who had nine receptions for 155 yards and two touchdowns. A.J. Green also had 155 yards, on six catches and one touchdown.

The Lions are now 4-3, while the Bengals improve to 5-2.

Detroit hosts the Dallas Cowboys next week. With the Chicago Bears losing 45-41 to Washington, the Lions remain tied for first place in the NFC North.
