Just days away from two United States men's national team friendlies against Scotland and Austria, Americans playing abroad had an exciting week.

Terrence Boyd and Aron Johannsson both picked up braces this week, and Joe Gyau also added a goal. Jozy Altidore and Sacha Kljestan also picked up assists.

Timmy Chandler and Tim Ream both picked up Man of the Match honors in their respective games, and there are injury updates on Steve Cherundolo, Fabian Johnson, John Anthony Brooks, Stuart Holden and Danny Williams.

Six Americans saw their Liga MX playoff hopes go down to the final game of the season, and there were also a handful of USMNT roster leaks for the upcoming friendlies.

In Norway, Mix Diskerud and Steve Clark saw their respective championship and relegation battles go down to the final game of the Tippeligaen.

There's also transfer news involving Freddy Adu and U.S. U-20 internationals Daniel Cuevas and Benji Joya.

It was a big weekend for American goalkeepers in the English Premier League with Tim Howard and Brad Guzan both picking up shutouts and Brad Friedel getting a rare start for Tottenham.

Howard made two saves in Everton's 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace, Guzan made two saves in Aston Villa's 2-0 win over Cardiff, and Friedel made three saves in Tottenham's 1-0 loss to Newcastle while deputizing for a still-concussed Hugo Lloris.

Geoff Cameron played 90 minutes in Stoke City's wild 3-3 draw with Swansea. Brek Shea and Maurice Edu did not make the game-day squad. It was reported this week via Stoke's website, however, that Brek Shea will be called up for the USMNT friendlies next week.

Jozy Altidore notched an assist in Sunderland's 2-1 League Cup win over Southampton midweek and played the final 13 minutes of their big 1-0 win over Manchester City on Sunday.

In an encouraging sign for USMNT fans, Steve Cherundolo returned to Hannover's first team as he made the bench in Hannover's 0-0 draw with Braunschweig. Cherundolo only recently returned to full training with Hannover following two knee surgeries over the past year.

Fabian Johnson also made his long-awaited return from injury this week as he played the second half of Hoffenheim's 3-2 loss to Hertha Berlin. John Anthony Brooks, still recovering from an elbow injury, made the bench for Hertha but did not play.

Timmy Chandler went the distance for Nurnberg in their 3-1 loss to Borussia Monchengladbach and was Nurnberg's highest-rated player according to WhoScored.

Jermaine Jones played 90 minutes in Schalke's 3-1 win over Werder Bremen and picked up a yellow card.

Michael Parkhurst was not in the squad for Augsburg's match with Bayern Munich.

Down in Bundesliga 2, Bobby Wood played 18 minutes of 1860 Munich's 1-0 win over Bielefeld.

In the Regionalliga, Joe Gyau scored the game-winner in Hoffenheim II's 3-0 victory over Ulm.

Tim Ream picked up an assist and Man of the Match honors in Bolton's 3-1 win over Millwall. Ream is also apparently on the preliminary roster for the USMNT's November friendlies. Also this week, Fox Sports announced that Stuart Holden is expected back in training for Bolton in January.

Eric Lichaj came on for the final 15 minutes of Nottingham Forest's 2-0 win over Leicester.

Neither Danny Williams nor Oguchi Onyewu dressed for their respective sides as Reading took on Queens Park Rangers. Williams was set to return from injury but suffered a new setback in training this week.

Jonathan Spector is still injured and missed Birmingham's 3-1 win over Huddersfield. American teenager Duane Holmes made the bench for Huddersfield but did not get into the game.
