WWE once again put together a stunning program for its midweek show, as WWE Main Event from Uncasville, Conn., was an outstanding program with quality bouts top to bottom.
Fans should expect nothing less from the show at this point, considering the wealth of talent currently on the WWE roster. It was an impressive showing for all involved, but especially for the two stars who opened the night's festivities:
In the chaotic aftermath of Survivor Series, Main Event helped to hint at the direction for some superstars moving forward. Here's a look at the results from the three-match card with some analysis for good measure.
Alberto Del Rio Defeated Dolph Ziggler
Now this was a main event.
This is what WWE intended with the program—to feature matches that could truly headline RAW and other programs.
Alberto Del Rio and Dolph Ziggler are easily two of the most talented stars on the roster and have given fans entertaining affairs in the past.
As expected, this was a technically savvy encounter as both men gave their all. On a show void of storylines that pushes the focus to the wrestling itself, it doesn't get much better than this. The fans agree:
With Del Rio out of an angle after his loss at Survivor Series and Ziggler continuously mishandled in the same manner, it was a toss-up as to who would emerge victorious.
When the dust settled, it was the smug Del Rio via his oft-utilized cross armbreaker.
Regardless of the result, this was one of the best matches put on by the company in weeks. It's a nice way to start with the build to TLC just beginning.
Damien Sandow Defeated Santino Marella
This one went as expected.
Damien Sandow's stock has taken a massive dive since losing his Money in the Bank briefcase, but WWE surely was not going to let him lose here—especially after a critical victory over Dolph Ziggler on RAW.
After another brilliant promo from Sandow during his entrance, he wasted little time in dispatching Marella. As always, Marella entertained the crowd with his sarcasm and creative tactics.
Despite the brevity of the match, fans seemed to appreciate the performance by both stars:
Kofi Kingston Defeated Fandango
So this is where we're at with Fandango. Perhaps the hottest fad in WWE at one point, thanks to his dancing gimmick, Fandango is now reduced to somewhat of a jobber role on Main Event.
That was fast.
These two have met in the past to a lukewarm reception, but this match was better quality. This is mostly due to the impressive high-flying work from Kofi Kingston, but Fandango had his moments with quality offense.
Alas, Kingston kicked out of several near-falls and pulled out the victory to close the show.
Here's how fans felt about the matchup:
The future is cloudy for these two in terms of direction, but the talent is clearly there.
All in all, a great show from various talents given the time constraints. WWE Main Event continues to roll in the quality with TLC on the horizon.
