Real Madrid Transfer News and Rumours Tracker: Week of December 16

0 of 7

We're officially over half way through Decemberit will not be long until January madness descends upon us.

    We know the drill.

For one month in the middle of the season, clubs are allowed to sign and sell players in hope of improving their squads for a relegation battle, a title tilt or just because they can.

Real Madrid are no different, and the regularity with which rumours appear in the media about who Madrid may sign and sell will begin to increase now.

The following slides will keep you in check with who's saying what.

    —LAST UPDATE: Wednesday, December 18—

No Man Utd Bid for Angel

1 of 7

    Wednesday, December 18

Florentino Perez has dismissed speculation that Real Madrid have received bids from Manchester United, or any other club for that matter, for Angel di Maria, writes Rob Dawson in the Manchester Evening News:

“He has a contract in place until 2018 and many clubs want him.We have not received any offer for the sale of Angel Di Maria. This is the truth of this subject.

“These are things that do not happen but are written about. Nobody has told me anything about this situation, I have asked the club if someone has approached us and nobody knows anything.”

Di Maria is thought to be open to a January move, having fallen behind Isco and Gareth Bale in the pecking order, but Carlo Ancelotti is keen to keep him at the Bernabeu.

Matuidi Swoop on the Cards?

2 of 7

    Wednesday, December 18

Carlo Ancelotti is set to return to one of his former clubs in an attempt to boltster his Real Madrid midfield according to some reports.

France Football (h/t football-espana) are suggesting that Blaise Matuidi is an Ancelotti target.

The 26-year-old is out of contract in the summer and will be free to discuss a potential move away from the Paris club in January.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid are still hopeful of tying Xabi Alonso down to a new deal.

Varane in the Other Direction?

3 of 7

    Wednesday, December 18

Meanwhile France Football (h/t Marca) reckon that PSG could counteract any Matuidi move with their own bid for Raphael Varane:

"The French magazine also assures that the club has in its bank account €150 million to spend on reinforcements for the 2014-15 season. As well as Varane, PSG is also out for the Belgian Hazard and the Frenchman Pogba."

Real Madrid's French defender has struggled for fitness this season, but has emerged as a real star in 2013.

Los Blancos would certainly fight to keep hold of the 20-year-old.

Clubs Still Hunting Casillas

4 of 7

    Wednesday, December 18

It's not new, but on Wednesday morning The Independent were once again reporting interest from England in Iker Casillas.

The newspaper suggests that both Manchester City and Arsenal are keen on the Real Madrid goalkeeper:

"Although Woyzeck Szczesny has improved greatly for Arsenal, they are still thought to be interested in the Spanish keeper who would represent a significant upgrade.

Manchester City are also keeping an eye on Casillas as they continue to deal with the indifferent form of Joe Hart."

Carlo Ancelotti has installed Casillas as his Champions League 'keeper and captain, so the thought of lifting La Decima may be enough to keep the 32-year-old at the club.

Di Maria Acting Up

5 of 7

    Monday, December 16

Marca have analysed TV footage of Angel di Maria on the bench against Osasuna and suggest he is deliberately acting up as he seeks a January move.

Enrique Ortego, writing in the paper, really stuck the knife in:

"His behaviour has worsened ever since the news leaked out in Argentina of possible interest in him for the January window by Monaco. And ever since, Angel has been playing the devil."

Carlo Ancelotti has already said that he sees Di Maria staying at the clubwill the Argentine be able to force through a move if that's what he really wants?

Martinez Kills Rumours

6 of 7

    Monday, December 16

Inigo Martinez has moved to distance reports linking him with a move to Real Madrid.

The Real Sociedad defender has been tipped to follow Asier Illarramendi to the Spanish capital. However, Martinez has denied knowledge of any such transfer, via Football Espana:

"I do not think it is real, at least I do not know anything, and I have to stay with that. I am 100 per cent here, and I want to fight for Real in the remaining years that I am here.

"I like that Madrid and Barcelona talk about me, I will not lie, but there is nothing in it."

Whether or not there is anything in it, Martinez is likely to become hot property next summer, if not in January.

Falcao? Rubbish

7 of 7

    Monday, December 16

Faced with more questions over the weekend of a possible move for Monaco's Radamel Falcao, Carlo Ancelotti responded in a definitive manner:

"He’s a great player but we’re quite happy with the strikers we already have," Ancelotti said at his Friday press conference, according to AS.

"The team is scoring a lot of goals and so there is no need to sign Falcao at this point in time."

The Colombian only left Atletico Madrid for the French league in the summer, but rumours continue to persist over his future.
