Jermain Defoe has largely been out of sight, out of mind for Tottenham Hotspur over the Christmas week.

Since coming on for the final minutes of their 3-2 win over Southampton, a hamstring injury saw him miss both the West Bromwich Albion and Stoke City games.

Perhaps unlikely to start anyway, he watched on in the latter match as Emmanuel Adebayor again impressed in front of goal, while Roberto Soldado notched a goal and an assist in the 3-0 win.

New manager Tim Sherwood's plans for Defoe are not yet especially clear, with his injury denying us the opportunity to see if he would have been involved. With the January transfer window opening this week, we might begin to find out if the striker has a future in North London.

Developments relating to a possible move away from North London for Defoe will be covered here throughout this week. Of course, anything suggesting he is going to stay will be noted, too.

As it relates to the striker's standing at Spurs, pertinent speculation surrounding other occurrences and speculation relating to the club's attack will be recorded here as well.

Make sure to check back here throughout the week.

Defoe in for West Ham? Spurs Seeking to Replace Him with Juventus Pair?

The Daily Mail reports that West Ham United will attempt to sign Jermain Defoe if Tottenham make the striker available this month.

A loan move is said to be preferred by the struggling Hammers as they wait to see if they avoid relegation from the Premier League.

Defoe returning would be a contentious move after the acrimonious build-up to his departure a decade ago. The England man had requested a transfer following West Ham dropping down from the top flight, and moved to Spurs the following January.

With the East London club in desperate need of goals, their fans may be persuaded to forgive, or at least tolerate Defoe, if he can help them to survival.

Elsewhere, Steve Bates of the Sunday People reports Spurs are interested in Juventus front pair Mirko Vucinic and Fabio Quagliarella to replace Defoe.

Bates suggests technical director Franco Baldini has been evaluating the two from his native Serie A in preparation for Defoe moving to Toronto FC (further speculation of which can be found on the next page).

The Daily Mail's David Kent believes Toronto FC "hope to make a formal announcement about Jermain Defoe’s transfer from Tottenham at the end of next week."

According to Kent, a £6 million deal will be completed when Defoe moves to North America in March ahead of the beginning of the Major League Soccer season.

The move would see the England striker team up with former Spurs teammate Ryan Nelson who manages the Canadian side.

Following Tottenham's 3-0 win over Stoke, Tim Sherwood was reluctant to go into too much detail about the future of striker Jermain Defoe.

"I'm not sure if anything is finalised with Jermain, he is injured at the moment and we just want to get him back fit, whether he is with us for the short term, or the long term," Sherwood told Sky Sports.

In reference to a weekend report in the Sunday People, which linked Spurs with a move for West Brom forward Shane Long, Sherwood told reporters: "I know nothing about that, I haven't seen that."
