We're half way through January madness. We know the drill.

For one month in the middle of the season, clubs are allowed to sign and sell players in the hopes of improving their squads for a relegation battle, a title tilt or just because they can.

Real Madrid are no different, and the regularity with which rumours appear in the media about who Madrid may sign and sell will begin to increase now.

The following slides will keep you in check with who's saying what.

Zinedine Zidane has hinted that Real Madrid are monitoring Paul Pogba.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Goal.com) after the Ballon d'Or, Real Madrid's assistant coach confirmed that "everyone wants Pogba."

"In a few years Pogba will surely be among the three finalists. He is still young, but in the future he could win the Ballon d'Or."

His cards were obviously close to his chest, but does "everyone" include Los Blancos?

Real Madrid and Barcelona could be about to do battle with a host of English clubs over a young midfielder.

According to Sky Sports (h/t football-espana) both clubs, along with Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United, are keen to sign Sporting Lisbon's William Carvalho.

The 21-year-old has a buyout clause of €45 million, and it is thought any potential transfer will have to come close to meeting that.

Carvalho made his Portugal debut in November last year.

Not quite relevant to the January window, but Carlo Ancelotti has admitted he may have made a mistake letting Mesut Ozil leave the club.

Real Madrid sold the German international to Arsenal last summer, and the Italian has confessed it may not have been the right decision (h/t The Mirror)

"I think we made a mistake when we gave him the possibility to leave the club.

"However, we have fantastic strikers and don't need a back-up after Higuain's departure."

However Ancelotti has insisted the club will not be signing anyone in January, even if he would like to still have Ozil.

Manchester United’s hopes of signing Fabio Coentrao have hit a stalemate according the Daily Star.

David Moyes had hoped to bring the left-back to England, initially on loan, during January, but apparently Real Madrid are holding out for a permanent deal worth £20 million.

Meanwhile, Coentrao returns to Los Blancos’ squad for this week’s Copa del Rey clash with Osasuna.

Hurriyet (h/t Football Espana) say Gala want to sign the Argentine winger in the summer, though, not in January.

Conflicting reports continue to cloud the future of Alvaro Morata.

Speaking to AS, Carlo Ancelotti confirmed his stance that the young forward would not be leaving the Bernabeu this month:

I haven't spoken to him about [leaving]. There hasn't been any inquiries about him but if any club comes along to ask us about his situation, the answer is simple and clear: he's not for sale, he's not going anywhere.

Only recently The Mirror were still saying that Morata is a January target for Arsenal and Benfica.

Karim Benzema was one of Real Madrid's better players in the 1-0 win against Espanyol, and the word is that there are a number of European clubs monitoring his availability.

According to German paper Bild (h/t Marca), Borussia Dortmund are keen on the French striker with Robert Lewandowski set to move to Bayern Munich this summer:

The German newspaper talks of 'a secret transfer plan' in which Benzema would move to Dortmund in exchange for Ilkay Gundogan, who would reinforce Real's midfield. The German's contract with Dortmund runs out in 2015 and the player has, according to Bild received an offer from Los Blancos.

Italian champions Juventus are also said to be interested.

Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t AS) say that the Turin club will make a move for the striker if they lose Paul Pogba.

Pogba is a midfielder, but his departure would lead to a big-name signing and not necessarily a direct replacement.
