Manchester United's pursuit of Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kroos has been given a boost by Pep Guardiola.

ESPN FC reports that the Bayern manager said the following of Kroos:

"He is important. But things can change quickly in football. Here today, there tomorrow."

That will be great news for David Moyes, who has been heavily linked with signing a new midfielder, and per BBC Sport has admitted he would like to add more new faces to his squad.

With Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye—another reported target for United—set to sign with Paris Saint-Germain, per Sky Sports, Moyes may increase his interest in Kroos.

The Scot was in attendance at Bayern's 2-0 Bundesliga win against Borussia Monchengladbach last week, and he would have been able to make an assessment on the player after he played 87 minutes.

Per Gary Jones of the Daily Star, the chances of United adding Kroos to their squad in the January transfer window have been cut by bookmakers, with a move on United's part expected:

"Leading bookmakers have slashed their odds on Kroos switching the Allianz Arena with Old Trafford. Just two days ago SkyBet were offering 4/1, odds which have now been halved to 15/8."

However, Kit Holden reports in The Independent that United would be naive to think Kroos will be allowed to join them:

It seems improbable anyway that Kroos - who missed out on the glorious end of last season through long term injury, should choose to leave Bayern for United. But even if the club were still to have the same sporting allure as FC Bayern, it is highly unlikely that they would get their man. Kroos is simply too important, even for Project Guardiola.

Kroos would be a welcome addition to a United side looking to add some more quality to their midfield department.

The 24-year-old Germany international has the physique to cut it in the Premier League and a technical ability that would blend seamlessly with United's other creative talents such as Juan Mata, Wayne Rooney and Adnan Januzaj.

Kroos has made 20 starts for Bayern in the Bundesliga and the Champions League this term, per, but his contract is up for renewal in 2015.

The midfielder recently commented on his contract situation, telling Kicker, via Stephan Uersfeld of ESPN FC:

I can't rule out anything. No talks are planned in the near future. I am fully focused on the Rueckrunde [second part of the Bundesliga season] now.

There are worse situations in life. I play for a top club, and under a top coach. I am pleased, and sometime in the future a decision will be made.

Having won all that there is to win with Bayern, there is a chance Kroos will seek a new challenge after the World Cup.

If he does, there are few clubs better suited to his style than United, and Moyes has a ready-made place waiting for him in his team.
