Latvia put up a heroic fight but just couldn't pull off the upset.

Goalie Kristers Gudlevskis was the best player in this game. He made 56 saves and kept Latvia close throughout the contest.

Shea Weber scored the game-winning goal on a power play late in the 3rd period.

Patrick Sharp scored on a screen shot set up by Rick Nash to give Canada the early lead. Latvia bounced back on a goal by Lauris Darzins who scored on a set play that involved a quick substitution off a faceoff.

Canada advances to play the United States in the semifinals while Latvia earns the respect of the hockey world in defeat.
