Liverpool’s impressive 3-0 victory away at Manchester United last Sunday, coupled with results elsewhere in the Premier League over the weekend, suggests that Champions League football may really be returning to Anfield next season—and that Champions League-calibre signings may be arriving as well.

As Brendan Rodgers prepares his squad to keep up their same intensity and concentration for the remaining nine matches of the season, his management team will no doubt be on the lookout for potential signings to strengthen the Reds squad this summer.

Here are the latest Liverpool transfer news and rumours. Stay tuned throughout the week as we provide you with the most recent updates.

With Jon Flanagan and Glen Johnson being Brendan Rodgers’ first-choice full-back pairing these days, on-loan Aly Cissokho’s days at Anfield seem to be numbered: ESPN reported last week that he will be returning to parent club Valencia at the end of the season.

But with Jose Enrique still injured with no target return date, Liverpool are still very much in need of a left-back, and according to the Metro, Barcelona’s Adriano is a £6 million target this summer.

Another left-back on Rodgers’ shopping list could well be Sevilla star Alberto Moreno, who, according to David Maddock of the Mirror, is also attracting strong interest from Real Madrid.

Indeed, Moreno had previously been tipped to replace Fabio Coentrao at the Santiago Bernabeu, but his agent has kept Liverpool in the race by playing down those rumours. At £15 million, however, he would be considerably more expensive than Adriano.

Such is the extent of Liverpool’s left-back troubles, that they’ve been linked with three players in that position this week. Young Reading full-back Jordan Obita is, according to Neil Moxley of the Mirror, a scouting target of the Anfield club.

The 20-year-old’s natural position is actually further forward on the wing, but has deputized capably as a full-back in recent weeks and settled into his defensive duties comfortably.

Liverpool’s high-profile moves for Mohamed Salah and Yevhen Konoplyanka in the January transfer window ultimately ended in disappointment as Rodgers failed to strengthen his squad with an attacking option.

Jeremy Menez, who according to David Wright of the Express was also a January target for the Reds, has admitted that his future at Paris Saint-Germain is up in the air after contract talks broke down earlier this season.

With his current deal ending at the end of the current campaign, Menez would be available on a Bosman free transfer.

Following Luis Suarez’s stunning success at Liverpool, it’s no surprise that they are considering returning to Ajax Amsterdam for prospective new signings.

This time, according to, young stars Joel Veltman and Davy Klaassen are at the centre of the rumours, as Brendan Rodgers looks to continue his youth revolution at Anfield with two of the Eredivisie’s hottest prospects.

Klaassen was, of course, featured in our list of five best talents to watch from Ajax and PSV Eindhoven earlier this season.

Brendan Rodgers Happy to Wait over New Deal

In just over 18 months, Brendan Rodgers has turned a team struggling around the mid-table area to title contenders and masterminded a stunning transformation in both Liverpool’s fortunes and their attacking play.

But his initial contract with the Reds when he was appointed in the summer of 2012 was only for three years, and as it stands he only has one full season left to go, which, according to the Mirror, has alerted Barcelona as potential suitors this summer.

Rodgers himself is ready to focus on the Premier League title race and resume talks at the end of the season, however, per the Express: “I would never want the club to be distracted by worrying about me. They don’t have to worry.”

With Liverpool keen on securing a high-profile attacking signing, Xherdan Shaqiri’s name has popped up frequently as a potential and exciting target.

The Bayern Munich winger has poured fuel on recent rumours linking him with a move to Anfield this summer, according to ESPNFC, and claims that he would be open to an offer from the Reds if it did arrive.

After the Reds missed out on Yevhen Konoplyanka in January, all signs pointed to Rodgers and co. returning with another bid for the Ukrainian winger this summer.

But Dnipro president Ihor Kolomoyskyi has claimed, via the Daily Star, that he is contact with Tottenham Hotspur regarding a potential transfer of Konoplyanka. Kolomoyskyi has suggested that life in London would suit the winger better than life in Liverpool.

Much more to come in this space for sure.

Benfica striker Rodrigo, who has scored 10 goals so far this season, including one in their 3-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League last week, is reportedly a £25 million target for Liverpool, according to James Nursey of the Mirror.

Rodrigo has previously spent time in the Premier League, scoring just once in 17 league games while on loan at Bolton over the 2010/2011 season, and is also rumoured to be attracting the interest of Russian giants Zenit St. Petersburg.

    Scott Heppell/Associated Press

Sunderland may have made their way into the League Cup final, as well as the FA Cup semifinals, but they are also perilously positioned in the Premier League, currently third from bottom with only 25 points on board—though they do have two games in hand on nearest rivals Crystal Palace and West Bromwich Albion.

Black Cats manager Gus Poyet already has one eye on next season if they do stay in the top flight, and has expressed his interest in keeping on-loan Fabio Borini, who has scored in some significant games for Sunderland this season, per Gary Jones of the Daily Star.

According to the Metro, Liverpool and Chelsea both sent scouts to last Saturday’s match between Hoffenheim and Mainz to keep an eye on Firmino, who is rated at £12 million.

As we approach this summer’s World Cup, Sporting Lisbon defender Marcos Rojo has established himself as Argentina’s first-choice left-back, and is also capable of playing in the centre of defence.

And according to Alex Richards of the Mirror, Liverpool sent scouts to look at Rojo during Sporting’s 1-0 win over FC Porto last Sunday, but 75 per cent of his contract is reportedly owned by Doyen Sports, which would have to be resolved with the Premier League before a transfer can go through.

According to Ben Jefferson of the Express, Liverpool may now be leading the race to sign Belgian starlet Zakaria Bakkali from PSV Eindhoven, over the likes of Real Madrid and Arsenal.

Bakkali, who also features on our aforementioned list of five best talents from Ajax and PSV, has seen his first-team opportunities limited this season, but remains one of the most highly rated young talents in the Netherlands.
